M-Type Crossarm Saddle Plate for Utility Poles
The M-type crossarm saddle plate is a formed steel component used in utility-pole crossarm mounting assemblies. It is also known as an M-iron washer, M-shape crossarm bracket, crossarm clamping plate or M-type pole saddle.
The curved center section is shaped to fit against the surface of a round utility pole. This profile increases the contact area between the pole and the crossarm assembly and helps reduce movement after the mounting bolts are tightened. Elongated slots at both ends provide installation tolerance and allow the plate to be matched with the approved crossarm and bolt arrangement.
Key Features

Materials and Construction
The saddle plate is typically manufactured from Q235 carbon-steel plate. The steel strip is cut to length, punched with elongated slots and formed to produce the required M-shaped profile. The final curvature must match the specified pole diameter and crossarm installation arrangement.
Equivalent carbon-steel grades may be supplied when their chemical composition, mechanical properties, thickness tolerance and weldability satisfy the approved customer specification.
Surface Treatment
The finished steel component is hot-dip galvanized to provide corrosion protection for outdoor utility-pole installations. The galvanizing process should cover the exposed faces, curved surfaces, slot edges and cut edges of the component.
When specified by the buyer, the galvanized coating can be inspected according to ISO 1461:2022, GB/T 13912 or another approved project requirement. The minimum coating thickness or coating mass must be stated in the purchase specification and confirmed by the corresponding inspection report.
Typical Size Options
| Reference Size | Plate Thickness | Plate Width | Reference Pole Diameter |

| M-210 | 6 mm | 60 mm | D210 mm |
| M-220 | 6 mm | 60 mm | D220 mm |
| M-230 | 6 mm | 60 mm | D230 mm |
The reference code above is provided only to distinguish common pole-diameter options. The buyer’s drawing remains the controlling document for all manufacturing dimensions.
Applications
- Utility-pole crossarm mounting assemblies
- Concrete-pole distribution lines
- Wood-pole crossarm installations
- Steel-pole mounting assemblies
- Transformer platform crossarm supports
- Rural electrification projects
- Overhead distribution-network upgrades
- Replacement and maintenance of existing pole-line hardware
Installation and Selection
Select the M-type saddle plate according to the outside diameter and shape of the utility pole, crossarm dimensions, bolt diameter, slot dimensions, mounting spacing and structural load requirements.
The curved section should contact the pole surface evenly without excessive rocking or concentrated contact. Mounting bolts must be tightened according to the approved construction procedure. The saddle plate should not be modified, drilled, cut or heated on site unless the project engineer has approved the change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this product an ordinary flat washer?
No. It is a formed pole-line mounting plate designed to fit between a utility pole and a crossarm assembly. Its dimensions and curvature are specific to the installation.
What does D230 mean?
D230 normally indicates a reference pole-contact diameter of approximately 230 mm. The exact curvature and tolerance must be confirmed using the approved drawing.
Does this saddle plate carry electrical current?
No electrical function should be assumed. It is a structural pole-line hardware component used in the mechanical crossarm mounting assembly.
Can different pole diameters be supplied?
Yes. The curvature and overall dimensions can be formed according to the specified pole diameter and crossarm configuration.
Can the slot size be customized?
Yes. Slot length, width and spacing can be produced according to the matching mounting-bolt size and approved drawing.
