NXL-J Aluminum Alloy Wedge-Type Insulation Strain Clamp
The NXL-J aluminum alloy wedge-type insulation strain clamp is used to terminate and mechanically secure compatible overhead conductors at strain poles, angle poles and terminal structures. The clamp transfers the longitudinal conductor load to an insulator string, link fitting or other approved pole-line connection.
The product features a cast aluminum-alloy body with a wedge-type conductor-gripping structure. As conductor tension increases, the wedge assembly develops a corresponding clamping action inside the body. Depending on the selected model, a side-mounted bolted connector may be supplied for jumper or lead-wire connection.
The clamp is commonly used with overhead insulated aluminum conductors. Compatibility with bare AAC, AAAC, ACSR or other conductor constructions must be confirmed from the approved selection table before ordering.

Final conductor range, dimensions, tightening torque and mechanical rating must be taken from the approved drawing and test report. Values from another manufacturer’s NXL-J selection table must not be used directly.
Wedge-Locking Structure
The conductor is held inside the clamp body by a matched wedge or keeper assembly. The internal profile must correspond to the conductor diameter and insulation construction. An incorrectly selected wedge can produce insufficient holding strength or damage the conductor covering.
Side-Mounted Conductor Connector
The side-mounted bolted component can be configured for jumper or lead-wire connection according to the product model. The compatible conductor material, conductor size, surface preparation and tightening torque must be confirmed before installation.
The product photograph alone does not confirm whether this connector is intended for a bare conductor, stripped insulated conductor or non-stripping installation.

Installation Guidance
- Confirm the conductor type, outside diameter and clamp model.

IEC 61284 specifies requirements and tests for overhead-line fittings. It is principally applicable to overhead lines above 45 kV but may also be applied to fittings for lower-voltage lines when required by the project specification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this an NLD-type strain clamp?
No. NLD clamps normally use a malleable-iron body and U-bolt construction. This product uses an aluminum-alloy wedge-type body and belongs to the NXL-J-style strain-clamp category.
Can it be used with insulated conductors?
Yes, when the selected clamp model and wedge profile are suitable for the conductor diameter and insulation construction.
Does the conductor insulation need to be removed?
This depends on the exact wedge and side-connector design. Do not advertise the product as a non-stripping clamp until the approved installation instructions confirm this function.
Can it be used with ACSR conductor?
Only when the product selection table specifically lists the required ACSR size. Conductor compatibility cannot be determined from the clamp appearance alone.
Is the clamp IEC certified?
IEC does not certify the product merely because IEC 61284 is referenced. Any compliance statement must be supported by a test report for the exact model.
