DIN 1480-Type Galvanized Hook-and-Eye Turnbuckle
The hook-and-eye open-body turnbuckle is a mechanical tension-adjustment fitting used in guy-wire, steel wire-rope, fencing, pole-line and general static support assemblies. Rotating the central body draws the two threaded end fittings together or pushes them apart, allowing the connected assembly to be tightened, loosened or accurately adjusted.

How the Turnbuckle Works
The two end fittings have opposite thread directions. When the open central body is rotated in one direction, both threaded terminals move inward and increase tension. Rotating the body in the opposite direction moves the terminals outward and reduces tension.
Sufficient thread engagement must remain inside both ends of the body. The threaded rods must not be extended beyond the limit specified by the manufacturer or project drawing.
Hook-and-Eye Configuration
Closed Eye End
The closed eye provides a captive connection point and may be assembled with a shackle, wire-rope thimble, bolt or other dimensionally compatible hardware. The connecting component must fit without producing harmful side loading.
Open Hook End
The open hook provides a quick, removable connection. Because it is not fully closed, it may disengage if the assembly becomes slack, twists or is subjected to unintended movement. The hook-and-eye version is therefore best suited to controlled static tensioning applications.
For critical connections where accidental disengagement is unacceptable, an eye-and-eye or jaw-end turnbuckle may be more appropriate.
Materials and Manufacturing
The body and threaded terminals are commonly manufactured from carbon steel. Depending on the selected product grade, the open body may be forged or formed, while the threaded terminals may be forged, formed or machined.
Steel grade, manufacturing method, thread tolerance and mechanical properties must be confirmed from the manufacturer’s drawing and material certificate. The photograph alone cannot confirm whether the body is forged or formed.
Surface Treatment
Zinc-Plated Finish
Zinc plating produces a relatively bright and smooth metallic surface. It is suitable for general indoor applications and mildly corrosive environments. The zinc-plating thickness and supplementary treatment should be specified before ordering.
Hot-Dip Galvanized Finish
Hot-dip galvanizing provides a thicker protective zinc coating and is generally preferred for outdoor guy-wire, utility-pole, fencing and infrastructure applications. Thread fit must be considered when components are galvanized after manufacture.
The supplied photograph appears closer to a smooth zinc-plated finish, but the actual coating process and thickness cannot be determined from appearance alone.
