XGJ Center-Pivot Suspension Clamp for Overhead Conductors

The XGJ center-pivot suspension clamp supports bare conductors at suspension points on overhead power lines. Its articulated two-bolt structure allows limited angular movement while transferring vertical conductor loads to the insulator string or supporting hardware. Conductor range, groove radius, rated failure load, material grade and connection dimensions are selected according to the specific XGJ submodel and approved project drawing.

XGJ Center-Pivot Suspension Clamp

The XGJ center-pivot suspension clamp is designed to support bare conductors at suspension points on overhead power lines. Its articulated center-pivot structure allows the clamp assembly to rotate around the central connection point while transferring the conductor’s vertical mechanical load to the insulator string or supporting line hardware.

The XGJ series is available in different configurations for different conductor outside diameters, groove dimensions, connection arrangements and mechanical load requirements. The exact XGJ submodel must be selected according to the conductor diameter, conductor construction, armour-rod configuration and required failure load.

Key Features

• Center-pivot articulated suspension structure
• Designed for overhead conductor support
• Two-bolt clamp configuration
• Curved conductor-supporting grooves
• Allows controlled movement of the clamp assembly
• Galvanized ferrous construction for outdoor service
• Connected to an insulator string or supporting hardware by a pivoting strap
• Different submodels available for different conductor diameters and mechanical loads
• Dimensions and material grades confirmed according to approved drawings

Product Function

The suspension clamp supports the conductor at tangent or suspension structures while transferring vertical loads to the insulator string and tower or pole hardware.

The center-pivot connection allows limited angular movement of the clamp assembly. This helps the clamp accommodate changes in conductor position caused by installation geometry, wind and operating conditions.

This product is not a dead-end or tension clamp. It should not be used to terminate a conductor or carry the full longitudinal tensile load of the line.

Materials and Surface Treatment

The XGJ suspension clamp shown uses galvanized ferrous components, including the conductor-supporting clamp sections, articulated center strap, bolts, nuts, pins and connection hardware.

The exact material may include malleable cast iron, ductile iron, carbon steel or other specified ferrous materials depending on the submodel and approved design. Material grades must therefore be confirmed against the product drawing instead of being assumed from the model name.

Applicable ferrous components can be supplied with hot-dip galvanized corrosion protection. Galvanizing thickness, coating standard and fastener treatment are confirmed according to the purchase specification and intended service environment.

Applications

The XGJ center-pivot suspension clamp can be selected for:

• Overhead distribution lines
• Overhead transmission lines
• Tangent poles and towers
• Suspension insulator-string assemblies
• Bare conductor support
• Conductor installations using compatible armour rods
• New line construction
• Maintenance and replacement projects

Compatibility with ACSR, AAC, AAAC, galvanized steel strand or other conductor types must be confirmed according to conductor material, outside diameter, groove design and mechanical requirements.

Product Selection

The correct clamp must be selected using the following information:

• Conductor type and construction
• Conductor outside diameter
• Whether armour rods are used
• Outside diameter including armour rods
• Required failure load
• Insulator-string connection dimensions
• Tower or pole arrangement
• Maximum line angle
• Environmental and corrosion conditions
• Required standard and test documents

A clamp should not be selected using conductor cross-sectional area alone. Conductors with the same nominal cross-sectional area may have different outside diameters and constructions.

Applicable Standards

Where specified by the purchaser and supported by the corresponding design and test documentation, XGJ suspension clamps may be manufactured and inspected with reference to applicable requirements of IEC 61284 for overhead-line fittings.

Hot-dip galvanized fabricated iron and steel components may reference applicable requirements of ISO 1461 when specified. Fasteners or specially coated components may require separate product-specific coating requirements.

A reference to IEC or ISO standards does not mean that every XGJ configuration has automatically been certified. Compliance must be confirmed using the exact submodel, approved drawing and corresponding test documentation.

Quality Control

Inspection and testing requirements can include:

• Material verification
• Dimensional inspection
• Conductor-groove inspection
• Bolt, pin and cotter-pin inspection
• Clamp articulation inspection
• Mechanical failure-load testing
• Slip or holding-performance testing where specified
• Galvanizing and coating inspection
• Assembly, marking and packaging inspection

The inspection plan and acceptance criteria are confirmed according to the purchase specification and approved technical documents.

Customization

Conductor groove, clamp dimensions, articulated connection, material grade, mechanical load, galvanizing requirement, marking and packaging can be evaluated according to approved drawings and order quantities.
