JZX4 Cross-Type Quad-Bundle Spacer Damper

The JZX4 cross-type quad-bundle spacer damper is installed between four subconductors in an overhead transmission-line bundle. Its principal functions are to maintain the designed bundle geometry, prevent excessive subconductor movement and help reduce wind-induced vibration and subspan oscillation.

The product consists of a cross-shaped central frame, four articulated arms, conductor clamps, fastening hardware and damping elements. The four conductor clamps are positioned at equal intervals around the central frame to support a quad-bundle conductor arrangement.

The frame and clamp bodies are generally manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy to provide a suitable combination of mechanical strength, low weight and corrosion resistance. Elastomer damping components may be incorporated into the articulated joints to dissipate vibration energy while permitting controlled movement of the conductor bundle.

Structure and Components

Cross-Shaped Central Frame

The central aluminum-alloy frame maintains the geometric relationship between the four arms and transfers mechanical forces throughout the assembly. Its shape is designed to provide adequate rigidity while controlling the total weight of the fitting.

Articulated Spacer Arms

Four articulated arms connect the central frame to the conductor clamps. The joint structure permits limited relative movement while maintaining the specified spacing between the four subconductors.

Conductor Clamps

Each arm terminates in a conductor clamp matched to the specified conductor outside diameter. The clamp groove, liner arrangement and tightening requirements must be compatible with the conductor construction.

Damping Elements

Elastomer components may be installed within the articulated joints to absorb and dissipate vibration energy. Their material formulation, hardness and environmental resistance must be selected according to the required operating conditions.

Operating Principle

Wind acting on a bundled conductor can produce aeolian vibration and relative movement between subconductors. The spacer damper maintains the required bundle geometry while its articulated arms and damping elements absorb part of the movement and dissipate mechanical energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the JZX4 spacer damper suitable for twin-bundle conductors?

No. The cross-shaped JZX4 configuration shown is intended for four-subconductor bundles. Twin-bundle conductors require a compatible two-conductor spacer or spacer damper.

Can it be selected only according to the voltage level?

No. Voltage class alone is insufficient. Conductor diameter, bundle spacing, mechanical loads, vibration conditions and the approved line design must also be considered.

Does it completely eliminate conductor vibration?

No spacer damper can guarantee the complete elimination of all conductor movement. It is designed to help control vibration and maintain bundle geometry as part of an engineered motion-control system.

Can the same clamp be used for different conductor diameters?

Only when the approved clamp-groove range covers those conductor diameters. An incorrect groove can cause conductor slip, excessive pressure or surface damage.
