JDL-50–240 Insulated Grounding Clamp for 10kV Overhead Lines
The JDL insulated grounding clamp is designed to provide a fixed grounding, voltage-testing and discharge connection point on overhead insulated distribution lines rated up to 10kV. It allows approved temporary grounding equipment to be connected during line maintenance after the circuit has been isolated, de-energized and verified according to the applicable utility safety procedure.
The clamp combines a high-strength aluminium-alloy conductor clamp with an insulated rectangular grounding ring. A controlled exposed metal contact section provides the connection point for compatible temporary grounding equipment, while the insulated sections reduce unintended contact with the conductive ring.

Installation and Safety
This product is intended to provide a grounding connection point and must not be treated as a complete grounding system by itself. Installation, inspection and temporary grounding operations must be performed by qualified personnel using approved equipment and utility procedures.
The line must be isolated, de-energized, secured against reconnection and tested for absence of voltage before temporary grounding equipment is connected. Installation torque and conductor preparation must follow the approved product drawing. Do not describe the clamp as an insulation-piercing model unless the supplied product has a verified piercing structure.
Standards and Testing
IEC 61230 applies to portable equipment, including matching connection points, used for temporary earthing or earthing and short-circuiting of isolated or de-energized electrical installations. Compliance with IEC 61230 must only be claimed when the complete grounding equipment or relevant component has been tested and supported by valid documentation.
Mechanical strength, contact resistance, temperature rise, short-circuit withstand and insulation performance should be confirmed according to the purchaser’s technical specification and the approved test report.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the JDL grounding clamp an insulation-piercing connector?
Not necessarily. Standard JDL grounding clamps and piercing grounding connectors are different product structures. Conductor preparation must be confirmed from the actual product drawing before installation.
Can the clamp be used while the conductor is energized?
It is intended as a connection point for approved temporary grounding equipment after the electrical installation has been isolated, de-energized and tested for absence of voltage. It must not be promoted as a live-line grounding device without specific certification and procedures.
How is the correct model selected?
Selection is based on conductor cross-section, conductor diameter, insulation construction, connection orientation and project requirements. Cross-sectional area alone is not sufficient for final confirmation.
Is this product a lightning arrester?
No. It provides a grounding and discharge connection point. It should not be described as an independent lightning arrester unless it forms part of a separately designed and tested lightning-protection assembly.
Can the insulation colour be customized?
Black is commonly supplied, while red, yellow and green versions may be available for phase identification or project requirements.
