Hot-Dip Galvanized Z-Type Right-Angle Clevis Link

The Z-type right-angle clevis link is designed to connect insulator strings, suspension clamps, strain clamps and other overhead-line fittings while changing the orientation of theconnection. It consists of two offset steel plates and two removable clevis pins or bolts.Carbon-steel components are hot-dip galvanized for outdoor corrosion protection, withmultiple dimensions and mechanical-strength grades available according to the approved line-hardware drawing.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Z-Type Right-Angle Clevis Link

The Z-type right-angle clevis link is a mechanical connection fitting used in overhead transmission lines, distribution lines and substations. Its offset double-plate structure connects two adjoining fittings while changing or accommodating the orientation of the hardware assembly.

The fitting consists of two formed steel plates and two removable clevis pins or bolts. Each connection end can receive a compatible eye, tongue, clevis or plate fitting. Nuts and retaining pins prevent accidental loosening after installation.

The main steel components are normally protected by hot-dip galvanizing for outdoor service. Product dimensions, pin diameters, opening widths and specified mechanical loads must be matched with the adjoining fittings and the approved insulator-string drawing.

Important: The photographs show the general Z-type construction but do not identify the exact model. Do not list the product as Z-7, Z-10, Z-12 or another specific load grade until its dimensions and mechanical test data have been confirmed.

Function in an Insulator-String Assembly

The Z-type clevis link is installed between compatible connection fittings where the connection position or orientation must be changed. Typical adjoining components include suspension clamps, strain clamps, socket clevises, ball eyes, yoke plates, U-type clevises and other link fittings.

The opening width and pin diameter at both ends must be compatible with the adjoining fittings. The complete assembly must also have a coordinated mechanical-strength grade.

Materials and Manufacturing

The two main plates are normally manufactured from formed carbon steel. The offset profile is produced to provide the required connection geometry while maintaining adequate clearance between adjoining fittings.

Connection pins or bolts are manufactured from steel of the specified mechanical grade. Where split pins or R-clips are used, corrosion-resistant steel is recommended for dependable outdoor retention.

Material grades, heat treatment, welding restrictions and dimensional tolerances must follow the approved manufacturing drawing and purchase specification.

Hot-Dip Galvanized Finish

The steel components are normally hot-dip galvanized after forming and machining. The zinc coating protects exposed steel surfaces against atmospheric corrosion in overhead-line and substation environments.

Galvanizing requirements may be specified according to ISO 1461, ASTM A153/A153M, GB/T 13912 or a utility-specific coating specification. Threads, pin holes and contact surfaces must remain functional after galvanizing.

Applications

  • Overhead transmission-line insulator strings
  • Overhead distribution-line hardware assemblies
  • Suspension clamp assemblies
  • Strain and dead-end assemblies
  • Tower and crossarm connection hardware
  • Substation bus-support assemblies
  • Insulator-string orientation conversion

Installation Guidance

  1. Confirm the required model, mechanical load and installation drawing.
  2. Check that both clevis openings match the adjoining fittings.
  3. Confirm the pin diameters and available articulation clearances.
  4. Inspect the plates, pins, threads and zinc coating before installation.
  5. Insert each adjoining fitting fully into the appropriate clevis opening.
  6. Install the pins or bolts in the direction shown on the approved drawing.
  7. Tighten threaded components according to the specified assembly requirement.
  8. Install all retaining pins and open or lock them correctly.
  9. Confirm that the assembly can articulate without interference or edge loading.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Z-type clevis and a P-type link?

A Z-type clevis uses an offset configuration to change or accommodate the connection orientation. A P-type parallel link normally uses straight parallel plates and maintains a parallel connection arrangement.

Can the model be identified from the photograph?

No. Models such as Z-7 and Z-10 may have a similar appearance. The opening widths, pin diameters, overall dimensions and mechanical test data must be measured and verified.

Are the pins included?

The complete fitting is normally supplied with the required pins or bolts, nuts and retaining components. The exact supply scope must be stated in the quotation and packing list.

Is this product IEC certified?

IEC 61284 may be used as a reference for overhead-line fitting requirements and testing, but certification or compliance must not be claimed without documentation covering the exact product model.
