DT-50 Copper Compression Cable Lug for 50 mm² Conductor

The DT-50 copper compression cable lug is designed for terminating a 50 mm² copper conductor onto electrical equipment, busbars, switchgear and distribution terminals. It features a closed tubular barrel for crimping and a single-hole palm for bolted connection. Bare-copper and optional tin-plated finishes are available, subject to the approved product specification.

DT-50 Copper Compression Cable Lug for 50 mm² Conductor

The DT-50 copper compression cable lug is a closed-barrel terminal designed to connect a nominal 50 mm² copper cable conductor to a busbar, switchgear terminal, transformer terminal, distribution board or other electrical connection point.

The cable conductor is inserted into the tubular barrel and permanently secured using a correctly selected crimping die and hydraulic or mechanical crimping tool. The flat palm contains a single mounting hole for connection with a compatible bolt, washer and nut.

The product shown in the photograph has a natural bare-copper appearance and is marked “DT-50”. A tin-plated version may be supplied when additional surface protection is required, but bare-copper and tin-plated products must be identified separately in the quotation and purchase order.

Important: The DT-50 marking normally identifies the nominal conductor cross-sectional area. It does not by itself confirm the mounting-hole diameter, barrel dimensions, copper grade, electrical rating, applicable standard or certification status.

Final dimensions, tolerances and electrical or mechanical performance must be confirmed using the approved drawing, inspection report and test documentation.

Construction

The lug consists of a tubular cable-entry barrel and a flat connection palm. The barrel must be compatible with the actual conductor construction and diameter. The palm must match the selected equipment bolt and provide adequate contact area after installation.

The copper grade, conductivity, wall thickness and manufacturing process influence the electrical and mechanical performance of the completed termination. These parameters should be verified through material certificates and product inspection records when required by the project.

Surface Options

Bare Copper

Bare-copper lugs provide a direct copper-to-copper connection and are commonly used in dry, controlled electrical installations. The contact surfaces must be clean and protected against contamination before installation.

Tin-Plated Copper

An optional tin-plated surface may improve storage stability and corrosion resistance under certain environmental conditions. The plating thickness and inspection method must be specified before ordering.

Typical Applications

  • Low-voltage power distribution systems
  • Switchgear and distribution-board terminals
  • Transformer and busbar connections
  • Industrial control cabinets
  • Electrical panels and power equipment
  • Renewable-energy and energy-storage installations
  • Building and infrastructure power systems

Installation Guidance

  1. Verify that the lug is suitable for the conductor material, nominal cross-sectional area and conductor class.
  2. Confirm that the palm hole matches the equipment bolt diameter.
  3. Strip the cable insulation without cutting or damaging the conductor strands.
  4. Clean the conductor and cable-entry barrel when required by the installation procedure.
  5. Insert the conductor fully into the barrel.
  6. Select the crimping die specified for the lug and conductor combination.
  7. Apply the required number and position of compression crimps.
  8. Inspect the completed crimp for cracks, incomplete compression or conductor movement.
  9. Fasten the palm to the equipment terminal using the specified bolt and tightening torque.
  10. Apply the required electrical insulation, sealing and mechanical protection.

Installation warning: An incorrect die, incomplete conductor insertion or insufficient compression can increase contact resistance and cause overheating. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel using approved tools and procedures.

Quality Inspection

  • Material and conductivity verification when specified
  • Conductor-size marking inspection
  • Barrel internal-diameter and wall-thickness inspection
  • Palm thickness and mounting-hole inspection
  • Surface and edge inspection
  • Plating-thickness inspection for tin-plated versions
  • Crimping compatibility test
  • Electrical resistance and thermal-cycle testing when required
  • Mechanical pull-out testing when required

Reference Standards

  • GB/T 14315-2008 – Compression-type copper and aluminium terminal lugs and ferrules for power-cable conductors
  • IEC 61238-1-1:2018 – Test methods and requirements for compression and mechanical connectors for power cables up to 1 kV

Frequently Asked Questions

What cable size is the DT-50 lug designed for?

The DT-50 designation normally corresponds to a nominal 50 mm² copper conductor. Compatibility with the actual conductor class and diameter must still be checked.

Can this lug be used with an aluminium conductor?

No. A conventional DT copper lug is intended for copper conductors. Aluminium conductors require a suitable aluminium or copper-aluminium bimetallic terminal.

Is the product tin plated?

The product shown in the photograph appears to be bare copper. A tin-plated version may be supplied as a separate option when specified.

What bolt size should be used?

The bolt size depends on the actual palm-hole diameter and equipment terminal. The hole diameter must be confirmed from the approved drawing rather than inferred from the DT-50 marking.

What is the current rating of the lug?

A fixed current rating should not be stated from the model number alone. Performance depends on the conductor, crimping system, contact interface, temperature and complete electrical installation.
