Hot-Dip Galvanized Z-Type Right-Angle Clevis Link
The Z-type right-angle clevis link is a mechanical connection fitting used in overhead transmission lines, distribution lines and substations. Its offset double-plate structure connects two adjoining fittings while changing or accommodating the orientation of the hardware assembly.

Function in an Insulator-String Assembly
The Z-type clevis link is installed between compatible connection fittings where the connection position or orientation must be changed. Typical adjoining components include suspension clamps, strain clamps, socket clevises, ball eyes, yoke plates, U-type clevises and other link fittings.
The opening width and pin diameter at both ends must be compatible with the adjoining fittings. The complete assembly must also have a coordinated mechanical-strength grade.
Materials and Manufacturing
The two main plates are normally manufactured from formed carbon steel. The offset profile is produced to provide the required connection geometry while maintaining adequate clearance between adjoining fittings.
Connection pins or bolts are manufactured from steel of the specified mechanical grade. Where split pins or R-clips are used, corrosion-resistant steel is recommended for dependable outdoor retention.
Material grades, heat treatment, welding restrictions and dimensional tolerances must follow the approved manufacturing drawing and purchase specification.
Hot-Dip Galvanized Finish
The steel components are normally hot-dip galvanized after forming and machining. The zinc coating protects exposed steel surfaces against atmospheric corrosion in overhead-line and substation environments.
Galvanizing requirements may be specified according to ISO 1461, ASTM A153/A153M, GB/T 13912 or a utility-specific coating specification. Threads, pin holes and contact surfaces must remain functional after galvanizing.
