LXAY Aerodynamic Open-Profile Toughened Glass Disc Insulator
The LXAY aerodynamic toughened glass disc insulator is designed for suspension and tension insulator strings used on outdoor overhead power transmission and distribution lines. It provides electrical insulation and mechanical connection between energized conductors and supporting structures.
Its smooth open-profile design, also known as an aerodynamic profile, has no deep ribs on the underside. This structure is designed to limit the accumulation of windborne dust and sand, facilitate natural surface cleaning and reduce aerodynamic resistance in dry, windy or dust-prone operating environments.
Key Features
- Aerodynamic open-profile glass shell
- Smooth underside without deep ribs
- Toughened glass dielectric material
- Designed to limit dust and sand accumulation
- Suitable for suspension and tension insulator strings
- Transparent glass body supports convenient visual inspection
- Multiple mechanical-strength and coupling configurations available
- Custom marking and export packaging available
Materials and Construction
The insulator unit consists of a toughened glass dielectric shell and cap-and-pin coupling components. Metal fitting material, protective coating, cementing system, locking device and coupling designation are supplied according to the selected LXAY submodel, approved drawing and customer specification.
The toughened glass body provides electrical insulation, while the cap-and-pin assembly transfers the mechanical load through the completed insulator string. Exact materials and technical requirements must be confirmed before production.
Aerodynamic Open-Profile Design
The LXAY profile is intended for applications where an open and comparatively smooth shed surface is preferred. Its streamlined shape can help reduce the retention of dry contaminants and facilitate cleaning by natural airflow or rain. Final profile selection must consider pollution type, pollution severity, rainfall, wind conditions, altitude and the required creepage distance.
Series and Model Selection
LXAY identifies a product series rather than one fixed specification. Different LXAY submodels may have different rated electromechanical failing loads, unit spacing, nominal diameters, creepage distances, coupling sizes and electrical characteristics.
The complete model designation and approved technical drawing must be confirmed before quotation, production or publication of numerical parameters.
Typical Applications
- Overhead power transmission lines
- Overhead distribution lines where the specified ratings are suitable
- Suspension insulator strings
- Tension and dead-end insulator strings
- Dry and windy transmission corridors
- Desert and sand-prone environments
- Inland areas affected by windborne solid pollution
Reference Standard
The product can be manufactured and inspected with reference to IEC 60383-1 when specified in the purchase contract. Final compliance, test items and acceptance criteria are determined by the confirmed model, applicable project standard, approved drawing and agreed inspection documentation.
Quality and Inspection
- Glass appearance and workmanship inspection
- Dimensional and coupling verification
- Mechanical testing according to the agreed specification
- Electrical testing according to the applicable standard
- Cap-and-pin assembly inspection
- Metal fitting and protective-coating inspection
- Marking, packaging and traceability verification
