SY Series Aluminum Compression Equipment Terminal Connector
The SY series aluminum compression equipment terminal connector is used to connect an aluminum conductor to the flat terminal of electrical equipment. Its tubular barrel receives the prepared conductor and is permanently compressed using a hydraulic crimping tool, while the flat palm is bolted to the equipment terminal.
This connector is commonly used with transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, switchgear, busbars and other equipment installed in substations, switchyards and power-distribution systems. The conductor size, barrel bore, palm dimensions and mounting-hole arrangement must match the approved project drawing.
The product shown has a straight tubular compression barrel and a flat, undrilled equipment palm. Drilled palms, different hole arrangements and project-specific palm angles can be supplied when confirmed before production.
Important: The SY series is intended for compatible aluminum conductors. It must not be described as a copper-aluminum transition connector unless the exact product incorporates an approved transition structure. Copper-aluminum equipment connectors should be listed separately under the appropriate SYG or project-specific model.

Structure and Materials
The connector consists of a tubular compression section and an integral flat equipment palm. The conductor is inserted into the barrel and compressed at the specified positions. The palm provides the mechanical and electrical interface with the equipment terminal.
The connector body is manufactured from aluminum selected for electrical conductivity, compression performance and mechanical integrity. The exact aluminum grade, conductivity and temper must be confirmed in the technical specification or material certificate.

Blank Equipment Palm
A blank palm is supplied without mounting holes, allowing the hole pattern to be machined according to the equipment-terminal drawing.
Pre-Drilled Equipment Palm
One-hole, two-hole or other specified drilling arrangements can be supplied. Hole diameter, center distance, edge distance and palm orientation must be confirmed before production.
Straight or Angled Palm
Straight connectors are used where the conductor and equipment terminal can be aligned directly. Angled versions may be manufactured for installations requiring a change in conductor direction, subject to an approved drawing.

Product Selection
The connector must be selected according to the conductor material, conductor construction, nominal cross-sectional area and equipment-terminal dimensions. Products intended for AAC, AAAC, ACSR or other conductor constructions are not automatically interchangeable.
The palm must match the equipment-terminal width, thickness and bolt-hole arrangement. If the conductor and equipment terminal are manufactured from dissimilar metals, the required transition design and corrosion-control measures must be evaluated separately.
Installation Guidance
- Verify the connector model against the conductor and equipment-terminal drawing.
- Inspect the connector for deformation, cracks, blocked barrel or surface contamination.
- Prepare the conductor to the specified insertion length without damaging the strands.
- Clean the conductor and barrel according to the approved installation procedure.
- Apply the specified joint compound when required by the manufacturer.
- Insert the conductor fully into the compression barrel.
- Use the specified compression tool, die code and crimping sequence.
- Inspect the completed compression for correct position, dimensions and surface condition.
- Clean the palm contact surface before bolting it to the equipment terminal.
- Tighten the terminal bolts to the specified torque using the required washers and locking components.
Installation must be performed by qualified personnel. An incorrect die, incomplete conductor insertion or improper compression sequence may reduce the electrical and mechanical performance of the connection.

Is this connector suitable for copper conductors?
No. A standard SY aluminum connector is intended for compatible aluminum conductors. Copper or copper-aluminum connections require a connector specifically designed for the conductor combination.
Can the palm be supplied without mounting holes?
Yes. A blank palm can be supplied for machining according to the final equipment-terminal drawing. Pre-drilled palms are also available.
Is a hydraulic compression tool required?
Yes. The conductor barrel is installed using a hydraulic compression tool with the die and compression sequence specified for the selected connector model.
