10 kV Single-Core Cold Shrink Straight-Through Cable Joint Kit
The 10 kV single-core cold shrink straight-through cable joint kit is used to connect two sections of XLPE-insulated medium-voltage power cable. It restores conductor continuity, cable insulation, electrical stress control, metallic-screen continuity and outer environmental protection at the joint position.
The pre-expanded cold shrink joint body is supplied on a removable supporting core. During installation, the support core is withdrawn and the elastomeric body contracts uniformly around the prepared cable. No flame, torch or external heating is required. This makes the system suitable for cable trenches, substations, industrial facilities and other locations where hot-work operations are restricted.
Important: The product image shows the main cold shrink joint body only. The conductor connector, screen-restoration components, grounding materials, sealing materials and installation accessories supplied with a complete kit must be confirmed in the quotation or approved bill of materials.

Materials and Construction
The insulating joint body is normally manufactured from silicone rubber or EPDM elastomer with suitable dielectric and mechanical properties. Semi-conductive components are used to control the electrical field around the cable-insulation cutback and conductor connection.
The conductor connection may use a shear-bolt mechanical connector or a compression sleeve selected for the cable conductor material and cross-sectional area. Copper braid, copper mesh or other approved screen components are used to restore metallic-screen continuity. The external re-jacketing and sealing system may consist of a cold shrink outer tube, insulating tape and sealing mastic.
Surface and Environmental Protection
This product does not use a conventional metal surface treatment as its primary protection method. Environmental protection is provided by the elastomeric joint body and the specified external sealing and re-jacketing components. Metal connectors and grounding parts may be tinned or otherwise protected according to the approved material specification.
Water resistance, direct-burial suitability, ultraviolet resistance and chemical resistance must be verified from the test report and the exact kit configuration. These properties should not be assumed from the appearance of the joint body alone.
Applications
- 10 kV underground power-distribution cable systems
- XLPE-insulated single-core power-cable connections
- Substations and switching stations
- Industrial plants, commercial facilities and infrastructure projects
- Cable trenches, ducts and utility vaults
- Repair, extension and new installation of medium-voltage cable circuits
Installation Notes
- Confirm the cable voltage class, conductor size, insulation diameter, screen type and armour construction.
- Prepare the cable strictly according to the installation dimensions supplied with the selected kit.
- Install the conductor connector using the specified shear-bolt sequence or compression dies.
- Clean the cable insulation and remove sharp edges or conductive contamination.
- Position the joint body and withdraw the supporting core in the specified direction.
- Restore the metallic screen, grounding connection and cable armour where applicable.
- Install the outer sealing and mechanical-protection components.
- Complete the required inspection and electrical tests before energizing the circuit.
Installation must be carried out on a de-energized cable by trained medium-voltage cable jointers. Cable-preparation dimensions and installation procedures must follow the instructions supplied with the selected kit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the joint require a heating torch?
No. The pre-expanded body contracts after the removable support core is withdrawn. The installation itself does not require flame or external heating.
Can it be used with both copper and aluminium cables?
Yes, provided that a connector suitable for the conductor material, conductor size and required electrical performance is selected.
Is the conductor connector included?
The connector may be included or supplied separately. The agreed quotation and packing list must state the exact supply scope.
Can it be installed underground?
Underground installation is possible only when the complete joint system includes the appropriate moisture sealing, screen restoration and mechanical outer protection. The approved product test report and installation instructions must be checked.
