Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Crossarm for Overhead Distribution Poles
The hot-dip galvanized steel crossarm is a structural pole-line component used to support insulators, conductors and associated line hardware on overhead distribution poles. It provides the required spacing and mechanical support for the conductor arrangement specified by the utility or project design.
Crossarms can be manufactured from angle steel, channel sections, flat steel or formed steel profiles. Depending on the design, reinforcing brackets, mounting plates, welded supports and project-specific hole patterns can be incorporated into the assembly.
The product is fabricated according to the approved drawing and then hot-dip galvanized to provide corrosion protection for outdoor service. Angle-Steel Crossarm
Angle-steel crossarms provide a simple and rigid mounting structure for common distribution-line insulators and pole hardware. The angle size, length and hole arrangement can be produced according to the utility drawing.
Reinforced Steel Crossarm
Reinforced versions incorporate welded brackets, gussets or supporting plates where additional stiffness or a project-specific mounting arrangement is required.
Custom Pole-Top Assembly
Crossarms can also be supplied as part of a fabricated pole-top assembly with mounting plates, braces and compatible fasteners. The complete supply scope must be stated in the quotation and packing list.
Materials and Manufacturing
The crossarm is normally produced from carbon structural steel selected according to the required mechanical performance. Manufacturing processes may include cutting, punching, drilling, bending, welding, deburring and dimensional inspection.
All edges and mounting holes should be free from harmful burrs. Welded areas should be inspected for cracks, incomplete fusion, excessive spatter and dimensional distortion before galvanizing.
Hot-Dip Galvanized Surface
After fabrication, the steel crossarm is hot-dip galvanized to provide a protective zinc coating. Coating requirements can be specified according to ISO 1461, ASTM A123/A123M or the applicable utility specification.
When bolts, nuts and washers are supplied with the crossarm, their coating requirements should be specified separately because small hardware may be galvanized under a different applicable standard.
The minimum coating thickness, test method, appearance requirements and permissible repair areas must be agreed before production.
